Hush Little Baby

Sketch Five from my Studio Calico Sketchbook Four class was a bit challenging for me. So, I did it twice! Actually, three times if you count the cuts I made, but quickly discarded.

This is my first attempt~

While I like it, I don’t love it. I used seam binding ribbon to create the lines from the sketch, but something seems off to me. I wanted to add a bright, sparkly TC gem to the date tag, but Ashlyn didn’t like that. Even with the bling I still don’t think I would be happy with this layout other than the adorable sleeping baby on it.

So here is my second attemt~

I got the idea for the triangles from the Crate Paper blog. The designer modeled her triangle pattern after a quilt. I thought a quilt pattern would be a great base for a picture of a sleeping Hartly. Isn’t scary seeing how my little brain works? BUT aren’t they fantastic?

I used a scalloped 1 1/4″ square punch to make various patterned squares and then cut them in half. I thought they worked perfectly to show the lines from the sketch.

A close up~

My title~

I used my Silhouette to cut the word Hush using the Lauren script welded and cut at a 3″ width.
I used the Petite Type Circle letters from my Authentique paper pack. And for once I was actually happy with how they looked!
To tie my title and cardstock elements together I added Martha Stewart sequin stars across the entire area.

I used~
Authentique Journey Collection items: Stroll, Voyage, Explore, Itinerary paper, Petite Type Circle letters, Tabloid cardstock elements
October Afternoon Sidewalks paper
Vellum, MS sequin stars

The exact same paper line and elements were used for the fist layout along with a Teresa Collins brad.

Boy, looking at these pictures I could almost want another little one.
Noticed I said almost!

Everything in it’s place.

Hartly’s new trick is to line up her pal Mickey and all his buddies on the steps in a perfect order. After she gets them just right she runs to find me, my camera and starts her adorable, “Peez Momma!”

I then have to take picture after picture of her, them and anything else she can find. It’s hysertical!

So, I decided to document this using Sketch Four from my Studio Calico Sketchbook 4 class.

I love the circles on this sketch and thought their placement would replicate her placement of the characters.

I used~
George for the circles cut at 1.25, 1.75 and 2″.
Florals Embellished for the Everything phrase cut at a width of 7″.
Studio Calico’s March add on kit Narrative contents: American Crafts Chap paper, AC Epoxy Brads and letter stamps.
Caribbean twine from the Twinery
Bella Blvd Sunshine Happiness Popsicle Kisses and Sunny Side Up, Sphisticates Sprinkles & Lace Ice, Spring Flings A Tisket A Tasket papers
(And yes, those are my NEW Bella Bvld papers that I won!!)

Now if only she would put her toys away when she was done playing wth them!

No matter where I go~

I have 10 toes to keep me entertained.

Both of my girls LOVED their toes! Holden not so much.

The girls could keep themselves busy playing with toes, socks and shoes.
And only one has out grown this!

So, when I came across this picture of Hartly and her piggies I knew I had to use it on my layout for Sketch Three of my Sketchbook 4 class. I followed the sketch closely.

I used the April Studio Calico City of Lights kit. The papers were a perfect match for my picture picking up Hartly’s skin tone and the green of the grass out the car window. I added a sheet of MME Miss Caroline Howy Doody “Lovely” Mums paper.

I thought the Studio Calico Please Note number stamp would be a cute addition.

Included in the City of Lights kit was the Enjoy the Ride stamp which I used in red to highlight the red in the paper. I added a few other MME embellishments to finish off my layout.

I used~
City of Lights kit contents: Studio Calico Register paper, Bella Blvd’s Spring Flings and Easter Things Mom’s Bouquet paper, Enjoy the Ride stamp
My Mind’s Eye Miss Carlonie brads, Miss Caroline Howy Doody “Lovely” Mums paper
Glitter Ribbon from the SC Story Hour kit
SC Please Note stamp
American Crafts Flair Good Golly badges from my Scarlet Lime kit
Cuttlebug Swiss Dots embossing folder.
Stampin Up Melon Mambo ink, black ink

And I must hurry as Hartly needs her shoes on RIGHT NOW!!

So cute!

The second sketch for Studio Calico’s Sketchbook 4 is FABULOUS!!

One of the designer’s layouts used buttons and tin pins rather than circled paper or diecut circles. I LOVE that idea! And I can’t wait to try it.

But, I decided to start simple first.

I just love this paper from October Afternoon! And yes, my layout is bright and busy.
But that is exactly like the little girl in the pictures. Bright, happy and extremely busy!

My title~

I used Paisley for the phrase cut at a width of 4″. Don’t you just love the ability to cut things to the perfect size? It makes life SO easy!

A close up of my cluster of embellishments~

I trimed some additional circles from my scraps to add and continue the circle theme.

I used~
Studio Calico’s City of Lights kit contents: Bo Bunny Khaki Double Dot paper
Tim Holtz Ruler Ribbon
American Crafts Good Golly tin pins
October Afternoon products: Fly a Kite, Sidewalks, 5 & Dime papers, Rub Ons, Chipboard, Wild Cards
twine

Now as soon as I catch up on ALL the other sketches I will be back with the button version of this one.

Have I mentioned I am LOVING this class?

Every girl needs Uggs!

Yes, they do!

And Hartly LOVES hers! In fact she LOVES all shoes and HAS to put them on first thing in the morning, but that is a story for another time.

I enjoyed Studio Calico’s Stretch Your Kit and Happly Litte Moments classes so much, I quickly signed up for Kelly Purkey’s Sketchbook 4 class. And it is fantastic!

Every Monday, Wednesday and Friday we are given a new sketch and 4 designers’s take on it including a card. I always find it amazing how we all can start with the same basic items, but we make it our very own.

So, here is my take on Sketch One~

I used~
April’s Studio Calico kit City of Lights contents: Sassafras paper, Crate Paper’s Pretty Party Papercloth paper, BoBunny Khaki Double Dot paper, Green cardstock, twine, Crate Paper Pretty Party Brads, Sassafrass Die Cut Stikers, tags
Crate Paper Peppermint paper
Kate’s ABC for the letters in UGGs welded and cut 1.25″
CAC Pinafore font at 72 cut on my Silhouette

And don’t worry I see another pair of Uggs in all the Andrews girls’ future! They keep our toesies SO warm!
