A Tale Of Two Layouts~

I think I’ve mentioned before that my favorite part of each beach trip is watching the kids make that first walk to be beach.

Last weekend I got the best picture of Hartly in her beach cover up and floppy hat making that trip.

It was adorable despite the fact that she was pouting at having to wear both.

This weekend I’m joining in Shimelle’s Weekend of Online Scrapbooking.

Her first challenge is to use her Sketch 34 featuring a photo, lots of space and a banner.

And of course, I wanted to use that picture.

However I had the hardest time getting my picture to print, so I ended up with several copies which ended up being a good thing.

I used the new My Mind’s Eye Market Street collection with it’s fabulous mix of colors and gold accents.

I chose the striped paper as my background thinking the blush color picked up the same coloring in the sand.

Then I simply had fun layering the various embellishments in the collection.

To be totally honest I haven’t decided if I actually like this layout.

And then Ashlyn told me it was just so-so.

Hmmm….

So, what’s a girl to do?

Make another, right?

This time I played with Crate Paper’s fabulous The Open Road Collection with the exact same sketch.

For whatever reason this layout feels a bit more natural to me.

Same picture.

Same sketch.

Two different collections.

Two different themes.

But, same little girl pouting on her way to the beach.

I used~

  1. I really like both, but my favorite is the second one. I agree that it looks more natural. It’s funny how they are the same picture and sketch but look so different. I had to scroll back up to make sure they were the same sketch. I’m glad you posted both so we could see the similarities and differences.

  2. They are both fabulous. Amazing that you used the same sketch, yet they are unique because of the different paper choices. Love that picture too!

  3. Isn’t it great how one piece of inspiration can spark so many ideas. Love that you had another go to make it feel more authentic. I must say though that I adore your first layout. The colours are so beautiful and the touch of gold really just gives it some extra oomph.

  4. So great to document a date night. My hubby of 47 years still takes me on a date! Love the pop of pink with the black and white. Such pretty elements to work with. Thanks.
