I was scrolling through Pinterest this week and found the most adorable Mad Hatter Hats.
Did you go look? Aren’t they fabulous?
And perfect for this time of year.
My hats~
The website, Seeing Things, is even kind enough to give detailed instructions and a template.
However, some of us are a bit challenged when it comes to wielding a pair of scissors.
So, I decided to figure out how to use my Cricut to make my hats.
CCR screen shot~
I made the top and bottom of the hat by using Cricut Craft Room Basics Digital Cartridge for the circles cut at 3.5″ and 2.75″.
Easy peasy!
For the body portion of the hat I used Cricut Font & Basics Shapes Parentheses cut at 8.5″ high and 3.9″ wide.
I then trimmed the ends to make them straight rather than curved.
For my first hat I used Tombow Multi Purpose Liquid Glue, but I quickly switched to my hot glue gun for the second since I was getting glue everywhere.
I think I’ve mentioned before that I’m liquid glue challenged as well.
Next time I will run by paper through my Xyron to adhere it to the chipboard or seal the entire hat with Modge Podge to help keep those edges down.
I added a Spellbinders Bitty Blossom, seam binding ribbon and stick pin to decorate.
A close up~
I also spritzed them with Glimmer Mist to give them a little sparkle.
I even added stick pins from our swap from last fall.
Thank you Lori Sjogren!!
This is my Cricut Circle Canadian Challenge: Home Décor project in which we had to use chipboard and flowers.
I can’t wait to put these hats out with the other Halloween decorations.
They’ll just have to be up high, since someone thinks they’re just the right size for her Amber doll.
Oh boy!
I used~
DCWV The Spooky Time Stack
Spellbinders Bitty Blossoms, Seam Binding Ribbon, Glimmer Mist Purple Pansy, Chipboard
Cricut Font & Basic Shapes for the Parentheses cut at 8.5″ x 3.9″
CCR Basics for the Circles cut at 3.5″ and 2.75″
Well, how fantastic are those!!! Love them!
I found them while stalking your Pinterest pins Nadia!!! 🙂
These are so cool! Love that you used pins from a swap!
I can’t visit long as I’m still tryin’ to pick my jaw up off the floor : O !!!!!! OMG! OMG!!! Soooooooo, did you cut the chipboard with the Cricut & CCR too?? OMG! Totally AWESOME hats, My Dear!
Thanks!
And yes, I used very light weight chipboard. Think the kind that comes in paper packs or shipments to keep your paper from getting bent. 🙂
oh my I think the Mad Hatter would be very proud of you…love em Maile lei
Gorgeous!!! Hats🎩off to you! I am inspired to purchase a Cricut machine now. Which machine do you have, Sara? I am drooling over your 🎩🎩🎩’s!
Thanks! I’m almost embarrassed to admit that I have a Cricut Expression, E2, Imagine and a Mini. But, I love them all. I do find myself using the Mini most often.
And yes, I have a Silhouette too.
Sara, you should design your beautiful hats in Christmas papers and sell them! I would be honored to own one and I am sure many others feel the same way that I do.
Awww…thanks!
Sara you are so creative . I really love your Top Hat. Thank you so much for sharing your creativity and how you used your cricut cutter. I really need to start using my cricut cutter more.
Your hats are fabulous! I love them, and you used your cricut to make them, how cool! I must learn to make them lol. I think that the lifted edges, give it a vintage old look to your hat, looks cool:) Thanks for sharing!
Peace, Love, & Cricut Hugs!

Sara,
Did you need to use a Cricut cartridge to design the hats? I wondered if there might be a program. Thank you, Sara😊
I believe CCR Basics is available to anyone using CCR. I’m not sure about CCR Font, but it might be as well.
But, you could easily use any circle and find a shape similar to the parentheses and alter them like I did. Good luck!
And I would love to see yours if you make them!! 🙂
