Treat Bags & a New Toy

My birthday is coming up, oh who am I kidding! I’ve heard some great things about the Silhouette Cameo. The best being it’s ability to cut fonts directly from your computer. So when I got a coupon and free shipping I decided to order one for myself! Then my Mom decides it would make the perfect birthday gift for me. Now when Hubby sees it, it truly IS a birthday gift! Don’t you love it when a plan comes together?

Let me add that I love, love, love my Cricuts! My new toy is just that~ another toy to play with. Right now I don’t know a lot about it, but I want to learn and am excited about it. I will admit the Silhouette store is a litte intimidating, but the worst thing so far is knowing I will have to learn to spell Silhouette.

I decided to start small and use it to make tags for party favor treat bags for the kids’ party. This also allowed me to work with the font feature. Here is the program open and running. I used the Rockwell Font that comes standard on most computers.

My new toy in action~

A big difference is the Silhouette’s mat is clear. Yikes, I can see me misplacing it with some diasterous results!

Ahh gotta love a sticky mat!~

The finished product~

I used~
My Mind’s Eye hip-hooray paper, twine

A close up~

Not so bad for a first project.

  1. Great first project! Can’t wait to see what else you’ll do with your new birthday gift! Keeping up with that clear mat would be a challenge for me too. Hope we see more of your new toy – I’ve been thinking of getting one too – so I live vicariously through you for a while longer!!!

  2. Now I don’t feel so bad about having to look up how to spell Silhouette when you 1st told me about your new toy!! Other than supposedly being able to use any font you can get on your computer, does it only cut images you buy from them OR can it cut anything you can download from your computer??? I don’t think I’ll be branching out in this direction any time soon – I’ve got my hands full with Cricut toys & digi goodies!
