So it seems I am not only addictted to scrapbook kits of all shapes and sizes, but now I have jumped on the class bandwagon. I just finished up a wonderful class over at Studio Calico called Stretch Your Kit. Loved every minute of it! It really encouraged me to get moving and to actually open and use the kits I have.
They kept advertising a class called Happy Little Moments in which you altered a book to use to hold ~your happy little moments. I kept checking it out especially when they announced it had a kit. A KIT!! Perfect for ME! But, I still held out. So imagine my surprise when two days before the class was to start and when all the kits were sold out, I signed myself up! I decided I was going for it. I was going to use all those October Afternoon products I got in the Santa Sacks to make my book.
I have to say that after receiving the class handout I was amazed at the projects the designers created. The instructions are wonderful and full of so many ideas that are perfect for this project and layouts. I am SO excited to start on this and SO happy that I signed up.
Here is the book I chose~
This was one of several books I recently got from my grandmother’s house. My sister, cousins and I used to read these and I’m pretty sure they might have belonged to our fathers. So, I think they are perfect for this project rather than ending up somewhere discarded.
The instructions were to divide the book into segments to cut and remove. I used my Creative Memories 12″ guide, mat and red blade to cut the 7 page sections out.
Don’t worry, I will save and reuse those pages on another project. Also, I think the book is happy to be in someone’s hand rather than sitting on a shelf and never being looked at!
I pulled out my Tim Holtz purple ink for the first time to change the color of the book. I wanted to keep the picture of the chipmunk and the used look, so I think it did a great job of breathing new life into the book but also in keeping it’s character.
I then went over the purple with Tim’s Picket Fence Distress paint. I dabbed the paint on, misted it with water and wiped it with a cloth quickly.
Then I dug into my October Afternoon products and this is what I came up with~
Tim Holtz Purple Ink, Picket Fence Distress
October Afternoons Cherry Hill Journal Card, Thrift Shop paper, Modern Homemaker paper, Fly a Kite Letters, Playtime Sticky Keys, Sidewalk Label Sticker, Daydream Rubber Charm, 5&Dime Buttons
Elegant Eges for the bubble border
